Introduction

A good career development counsellor can do more than get someone a job, they can have a massive impact.

In addition, you can boost your own career along the way, augmenting your existing skill set and strengthening your practise, making you more valuable to clients and employers.

As job markets undergo increasingly rapid change demand for astute career guidance will expand, making this course an ideal add-on to your existing skill set.

This course is designed with that skill set in mind. It will ground you in the core knowledge and competencies required to move into career development practice.

Job roles

This qualification covers workers who provide a range of programs and services to individuals and groups of clients and employers to support them in planning their career and/or locating, securing and maintaining suitable employment.

This skill set is appropriate for workers already holding a relevant professional or vocational qualification for application in areas such as:

School career advice and VET in Schools work
Human resources, education and training and industry specialisation.

Assessment

Assessment may consist of

written answers to questions
role plays
project
holistic assessment
recognition of prior learning

Evidence may be

written
audio recordings
video recordings
observation
Zoom recording
interview
documents

Note that part of the practical assessment for this unit is assessed during the holistic assessment. You must successfully pass the holistic assessment to achieve an outcome of “competent” for this unit.

Entry Requirements

There are no prerequisites for this course.

All students will engage in a language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) activity to evaluate potential support requirements. Students who are funded are required to complete an alternative and similar activity.

Students may need to obtain a police clearance to work in certain circumstances – eg in a school.

Course consists of 6 units. Assessment activities will include holistic assessment activities.
